After being closed since February 2010, the Pewter Plough Playhouse in the “West Village” of Cambria will re-open in January 2011. The theatre went dark in 2010 due to the need to install fire sprinklers.
The first play of the new season will be the famed drama “The Glass Menagerie”, starting on January 21. Three other comedies and one thriller are planned for the rest of the year. The three comedies will be: Noel Coward’s “Hay Fever”, “Becky’s New Car” and “Playhouse Creatures”. The thriller will be “Death Trap”.
The Pewter Plough draws upon locally talented people to act and direct. “The Glass Menagerie” is directed by famed actor Nehemiah Persoff. My wife and I have attended two plays there, and had a great time.
Years ago, the SLO County Visitors & Conference Bureau hosted a round-table meeting in Cambria regarding Cambria tourism. One weakness cited by the locals was the lack of a nightlife in Cambria. Yes, there were several excellent restaurants open for dinner, but then what to do? Once again there will be a another Cambria nightlife option. The intimate (59-seat) Pewter Plough will give visitors in Cambria a fun option on Friday and Saturday nights , as well as selected Sunday afternoons.
